Key Takeaways for Part 2: In Part 2 of the "Powering the Future" series, we dive into how nuclear...
Tech Giants and Nuclear Power?
Changing the Energy Game with Next Gen AI
Big tech companies are moving toward clean energy, and nuclear power is becoming a more prominent option. Companies like Microsoft and Amazon are exploring clean energy initiatives that could include nuclear solutions.
- Microsoft: Microsoft has signed long-term power purchase agreements to reduce their carbon footprint. While primarily focused on renewable energy, nuclear power could play a role in their sustainability efforts.
- Amazon: While Amazon is currently focused on renewables, SMRs (Small Modular Reactors) may eventually become part of their decarbonization roadmap.
- Tesla: Has explored futuristic ideas like nuclear micro-reactors to provide energy solutions for military and remote operations, showing how compact, portable nuclear technology could be a game-changer for off-grid applications
Other tech giants like Apple, Google, and Meta (FaceBook) are also exploring clean energy solutions, which could reshape the future of energy.
New Technology: Rust and Safer Nuclear Systems
The way nuclear energy is managed today still relies on older computer programs that sometimes have safety issues. That’s where Rust comes in, a modern programming language designed to prevent errors that can make these systems less secure.
To help make older systems safer, there's a U.S. government software initiative that focuses on modernizing these programs (I'll be posting more about this in detail later). By using Rust, this project is replacing old, outdated code with new, safer technology to prevent accidents in important areas like nuclear energy systems.
Job Growth in Clean Energy
Nuclear energy, especially SMRs, promises significant job growth. According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), new jobs will emerge in engineering, project management, and environmental science as countries adopt advanced nuclear systems.
Remote education and training opportunities powered by VR (Virtual Reality), AR (Augmented reality), and AI are also accelerating skill development, making it easier for workers to learn and apply nuclear tech without traditional constraints. This levels the playing field for people have drive and talent but not the budget or means to attend a traditional brick and mortar secondary educational facility.
Exciting times lie ahead in the world of clean energy and technology.
As we move into an era where coding languages like Rust and next-gen technologies reshape nuclear systems, the global energy transition is gaining momentum. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be releasing a 3-part series on how these innovations—like SMRs and generative AI—are changing the energy landscape. With 11% global job growth predicted in the clean energy sector, now is the time to explore new opportunities in this field.
Follow me to stay ahead of the curve, and learn how you can be part of the movement driving sustainable energy solutions. Let's make the future of energy together.
